Oil and Acrylic Paintings
Three foot by four foot; original painting was acrylic paint with liquid impasto; thought a different approach might be more interesting so used some left over acrylic house paint for the Jackson Pollack swirl and then started working over the whole painting with oil paint over the acrylic underpainting. Might have to change the name …
“Painting is a language which cannot be replaced by another language,” Balthus.
I would like to think my paintings are like a conversation among friends; hopefully a pleasant and not too strident conversation.
I studied art at The Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida; Livingston State College in Livingston, Alabama; and The University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina never getting near a degree before joining the army in 1969.
My major artistic (and otherwise) influence has been my father, William Tidwell, who was a student of the precisionist painter Ralston Crawford and who retired as the head of the art department at Columbia College in South Carolina.
